CAREER DECISIONS

This section will help you to consider which occupations might suit you. In year 10 you should be starting to collect information about jobs. If you are older, it's not too late to start. You might like to make a list of the ones you fancy. What do they have in common?

You can find out about jobs and careers in many ways. Talk to relatives and neighbours about their jobs. When you are watching TV, think about the work that the different characters in soaps are doing. Share your ideas with your friends.

Visiting the school careers library or the college learning resources centre is a good way of getting more information. You will find lots of books there and some helpful computer programs. To make a start you could look at the A4 booklet "Its Your Choice" and the "Careerscape" database.

Work experience is another good way of finding out about the world of work. Most schools offer work experience to students in Year 10 or 11. Some college courses include work experience. Ask your Careers Teacher or Course Tutor for details of what is available to you.

If you are still undecided about what occupations might suit you, you are not alone. Most people of your age have not yet chosen a career path. Some of those that have, may soon change their minds. <more>
