CAREER ROUTES

This section will help you choose the best way to get the skills and qualifications needed, for the jobs you are considering. From year 11 you should be finding out about the various education and training opportunities that will be available to you.

You will need to choose which subjects to study, leading to which qualification at what level. You will also need to decide where to study (eg Business Studies, leading to a GNVQ at Intermediate level in the school sixth form).

  • You can choose from:
an Academic route, with GCSEs, A Levels and perhaps a Degree
  • a General Vocational route, with GNVQ Foundation and Intermediate and perhaps a BTEC Higher National Diploma
  • a Vocational route, with NVQ levels 1 to 5.

A qualifications route map shows how the different routes are linked. All careers will require further study, if you want to make progress. Your route will depend on your preferences and attainment so far.

You may want to study in the sixth form at school, at college or through a job with training. This is a good time to consider the pros and cons of the various options. <more>
